ABLEDATA, is a federally funded project whose primary mission is to provide information on assistive technology and rehabilitation equipment available from domestic and international sources to consumers, organizations, professionals, and caregivers within the United States.

American Council of the Blind (ACB) provides general information about the Council, including recent issues of their monthly publication, The Braille Forum.

The American Foundation for the Blind is a national non-profit that expands possibilities for people with vision loss. AFB's priorities include broadening access to technology; elevating the quality of information and tools for the professionals who serve people with vision loss; and promoting independent and healthy living for people with vision loss by providing them and their families with relevant and timely resources.

The American Medical Association is a not-for-profit group that provides taped audio anthology offerings. There are outstanding articles, short stories and poetry selected from current magazines such as The New Yorker, The Atlantic, National Geographic, Scientific American, Smithsonian, Gourmet, Travel and Leisure, Sports Illustrated, Foreign Affairs, Granta and Time. These free tapes are distributed throughout the U.S. six times a year. The unabridged articles are recorded on 4-track tapes to be played on the special tape players available free through the Library of Congress.

The American Nystagmus Network is a non-profit organization that serves the needs and interests of those affected by Nystagmus.

Assistive Technology Resource Centers of Hawaii links individuals with technology so all people can participate in every aspect of community life. Empowering individuals to maintain dignity and control in their lives by promoting technology through advocacy, training, information and education.

Canadian National Institute for the Blind is a nationwide, community-based, registered charity committed to research, public education and vision health for all Canadians. CNIB provides the services and support necessary for people to enjoy a good quality of life while living with vision loss.

Moorfields Eye Hospital  focuses on the treatment and care of patients with a wide range of eye problems from common complaints to rare conditions that need treatments not available elsewhere in the U.K.

Natalie's Way Foundation was formed in the honor of Natalie Stasi, who, in 1997, was born with Oculocutaneous Albinism (OCA). The foundation raises money through a golf tournament. The foundation's goal is to donate money for research in albinism and for children with eye disorders.
 
National Association for Parents of the Visually Impaired (NAPVI) provides leadership, support, and training to assist parents in helping children reach their potential. NAPVI is dedicated to:

  • giving emotional support
  • initiating outreach programs
  • networking
  • advocating for the educational needs and welfare of children who are blind or visually impaired

National Organization for Rare Diseases NORD is the only organization of its kind--a unique federation of more than 140 not-for-profit voluntary health organizations serving people with rare disorders and disabilities.

The National Vitiligo Foundation Vitiligo is spontaneous irregular depigmentation of skin that can occur at any stage in life. Scientifically, its cause is very poorly understood. It is not contagious and is technically not a serious health problem. But people with vitiligo and their families and friends know that it can cause much suffering because of social effects of the change in appearance.

The Nystagmus Network (UK) provides support for those with nystagmus, and the parents and teachers of children with nystagmus. This site aims to provide information about this eye condition, and some of the pages are of general interest to those concerned with visual impairment.

Radio Reading Service operates from Levin, New Zealand and is a not-for-profit social service broadcast. Our job is to turn print into sound for anyone who can't see, hold or access everyday printed literature.

Recordings for the Blind and Dyslexic the Nation's Education Library for people with print disabilities.

Resources by State including educational resources for Children with Disabilities  The NICHCY State Resource Sheet for your state will help you locate organizations and agencies within your state that address disability-related issues. Included on NICHCY state sheets are:

  • state senators
  • state governors
  • state agencies serving children and youth with disabilities
  • state chapters of disability organizations and parent groups
  • parent training and information projects

These state level agencies and organizations can often refer you to local sources of information and assistance. Some state departments of education serving general and special education have web sites. The National Association of State Boards of Education (NASBE) provides links to sites. 

Susquehanna Association for the Blind and Vision Impaired (SABVI) For over three-quarters of a century, the Susquehanna Association for the Blind and Vision Impaired has been helping to restore autonomy and independence to the lives of clients. Part of SABVI's mission is to provide social, vocational, rehabilitative and educational services for people who are blind or whose vision is impaired.

Vision of Children is an organization dedicated to the eradication of hereditary childhood blindness, including all diseases or conditions that render children legally or totally blind.
