VIDEO POEM ENTITLED “CRIES OF ALBINOS/ CRIES OF HUMANITY”

BY GCINA VABAZA

FOR INTERNATIONAL ALBINISM AWARENESS DAY, 13 JUNE 2018

On 18 December 2014, the UN’s General Assembly adopted a resolution proclaiming, with effect from 2015, 13 JUNE as INTERNATIONAL ALBINISM AWARENESS DAY. The United Nations Human Rights Council adopted a resolution in 2013 calling for the prevention of attacks and discrimination against persons with albinism. Wednesday, 13 June 2018 is therefore International Albinism Awareness Day.

Noting the scourge of the killings of Albinos in Africa, in particular the clarion call that “Never, never and never again shall it be that this beautiful land will again experience the oppression of one by another”, late President Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, that “In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends” and that “All it takes for evil to triumph is for good men/women to do nothing”;  Mr Gcina Vabaza wrote and made a video of a poem entitled “Cries of Albinos, Cries of Humanity”.
